Acesur, an interĀnaĀtional olive oil comĀpany, is set to open a new manĀuĀfacĀturĀing site in Suffolk, Virginia, bringĀing $11 milĀlion and 29 new jobs to the state. The deciĀsion was influĀenced by Virginia’s strong workĀforce, transĀportaĀtion netĀwork, and a $120,000 grant from the Commonwealth Opportunity Fund overĀseen by Governor Ralph Northam.

Acesur, an interĀnaĀtional olive oil comĀpany in operĀaĀtion since 1840, announced it will be openĀing a new manĀuĀfacĀturĀing site in Suffolk, Virginia. Governor Ralph Northam boasted that the new busiĀness is proĀjected to bring $11 milĀlion and 29 new jobs to the state.

ā€œVirginia has a strong workĀforce and a world-class transĀportaĀtion netĀwork that allows busiĀnesses to easĀily import and export their prodĀucts through the Port of Virginia,ā€ the govĀerĀnor said in his offiĀcial stateĀment. ā€‹ā€œThese and other advanĀtages conĀtinue to attract global comĀpaĀnies that want to launch in the United States, and I welĀcome Acesur USA to the Commonwealth.ā€

Acesur will benĀeĀfit from a $120,000 grant from the Commonwealth Opportunity Fund overĀseen by the govĀerĀnor. Joseph Fairchild, the vice presĀiĀdent of operĀaĀtions and direcĀtor of purĀchasĀing at Acesur USA LLC sugĀgested the decidĀing facĀtors for the company’s deciĀsion included, ā€‹ā€œmarĀket proxĀimĀity, proĀgresĀsive infraĀstrucĀture investĀment, as well as the Port of Virginia’s proxĀimĀity to the plant.ā€

Headquartered in Spain, Acesur is a comĀpany with verĀtiĀcally inteĀgrated holdĀings and interĀests up and down the olive oil supĀply chain. The comĀpany manĀages the proĀducĀtion, refinĀing, botĀtling, marĀketĀing and exporĀtaĀtion of olive oil in addiĀtion to other vegĀetable oils and condiĀments. They own sevĀeral popĀuĀlar food brands includĀing Italica, La EspaƱola, Hacienda GuzmĆ”n and Villa Blanca.

Acesur first began exportĀing to the United States in 1975, though the Suffolk facilĀity will be their first perĀmaĀnent holdĀing of its kind in North America.

The new olive oil facilĀity will manĀage imports from Argentina, Australia and Spain under the banĀner of Acesur’s US subĀsidiary. Virginia had been in comĀpeĀtiĀtion with North Carolina for this plant, but the Old Dominion State ultiĀmately won the day.

Suffolk Mayor Linda T. Johnson said about Acesur and their deciĀsion to come to Suffolk, ā€‹ā€œWe are conĀfiĀdent that their well-respected interĀnaĀtional presĀence will be a comĀpleĀmenĀtary blend with our skilled workĀforce and favorĀable busiĀness enviĀronĀment.ā€
